Arsenal star absent from training session ahead of Napoli game | OneFootball

Cristhian Mosquera was absent from Arsenal team training ahead of their Champions League opener against Napoli on Wednesday.

The defender did not take part in Tuesday morning’s open session at the Sobha Realty Training Centre before Mikel Arteta’s squad travel to Italy later in the day.

Mosquera missed Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea after suffering a muscular problem during the win at Aston Villa.

Arteta played down the severity of the injury after the Chelsea game but admitted Arsenal would have to monitor how the defender progressed over the following days.

“He had a muscular issue,” Arteta said. “We think it’s not too much but we need to wait and see in the next few days how it evolves.”

His absence from Tuesday’s session now makes him a major doubt for the trip to Napoli as Arsenal prepare to begin their latest Champions League campaign.

There was more positive news for Arteta with Jurrien Timber involved in training as the defender continues to work his way back from a long spell out.

Arsenal face Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Wednesday night.
