According to Mundo Deportivo, Premier League club Arsenal are reportedly taking cues from Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu as they plan a major renovation of their Emirates Stadium.
It is said that the Gunners aim to increase the stadium’s capacity from 60,000 to over 70,000, which would make it the largest football stadium in London, surpassing the Tottenham Hotspur’s Stadium and Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal’s proposed changes include lowering the pitch, renovating individual stands, replacing the roof, and potentially adding an extra tier of seating.
Reports from England highlight that Arsenal officials are closely studying the Bernabeu project, seeing it as a benchmark for how a modern stadium can combine aesthetics, fan experience, and commercial revenue.
The goal is not only to expand capacity but also to increase matchday income, a strategy Real Madrid executed successfully with their renovated stadium.
It must be noted that the Santiago Bernabeu underwent an extensive renovation between 2019 and 2023, costing around €1.76 billion.

The project transformed the stadium into one of the most advanced venues in Europe. Key features include a retractable roof and a retractable pitch system, allowing the field to be stored underground, creating space for concerts, exhibitions, and corporate events.
The stadium’s futuristic metallic facade, expanded capacity to approximately 85,000, and upgraded hospitality areas have set a new standard for modern stadiums.
The renovation also incorporated cutting-edge technology, including 360-degree LED screens, enhanced sound systems, and advanced Wi-Fi connectivity, creating a fully immersive experience for fans.
Real Madrid have turned the Bernabeu into a multipurpose venue that generates significant commercial revenue beyond football matches, including concerts, VIP events, and conferences.
Arsenal hope to replicate this model at the Emirates Stadium, combining increased capacity with improved matchday revenue, better hospitality services, and a world-class fan experience.
