A fee has reportedly finally been agreed with Newcastle for their influential captain

That’s according to the Newcastle Chronicle, who report that Guimaraes joined Newcastle’s training camp in Spain on Monday and held discussions with club officials and new head coach Matthias Jaissle where he reiterated his desire to leave.

Arsenal are expected to pay £75m for the Brazilian midfielder after submitting a second bid, having seen a first offer rejected on Monday.

Guimaraes will now be expected to undergo a medical later this week before wrapping up a move to north London. Personal terms are said to have been agreed for some time.

Newcastle are said to be happy with the deal, which represents a significant profit on the £38m they paid Lyon in 2022 for the player.

However, Guimaraes is the third star player to leave the club this summer - after Anthony Gordon joined Barcelona and Sandro Tonali went to Tottenham. It looks Alexander Isak joining Liverpool last summer.

Arsenal set their sights on Guimaraes after deciding a player was needed to both play alongside and provide cover for Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

Rice and Zubimendi suffered with the toil of playing upwards of 50 matches last season and Guimaraes, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, was keen to leave Newcastle.

BBC Sport report that Arsenal hope to complete the signing of Guimaraes within the next 48 hours, with Arsenal preparing for the player to undergo a medical.

The Brazil midfielder is awaiting permission to leave Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, Spain, to complete the formalities of his move to the Emirates Stadium.

The same report claims the transfer fee is expected to be worth up to £80m.
