Arsenal are interested in signing Sporting CP defender Ivan Fresneda in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants a new full-back at the Emirates Stadium club, and Fresneda has caught the eye again.
Arsenal were first linked with the 21-year-old Spanish defender back in January 2023, identifying him as a replacement for Cedric Soares and cover for Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu at the time.
However, Fresneda left Real Valladolid for Sporting a few months later and has continued to impress, winning the last two Primeira Liga titles.
The right-back has a release clause in his current contract that is worth €80 million (£69m), but Arsenal and other suitors could get him for much less.
The North Londoners could let White go, and the Gunners see Fresneda as an update.
While he is primarily a right-back, the Spain youth international can also feature as a left-back and centre-back, and Arteta appreciates such versatility in his defenders.
The Arsenal boss appears to be a fan of the Sporting star’s technical and defensive abilities, and a summer deal could be pursued.
Fresneda is not the only right-back on the radar of the Gunners, with Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento and Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza also being monitored.
Both of them can also play on the left and right of the defence, and more players with similar profiles could emerge as potential transfer targets for the Gunners.
Mingueza could be the most attractive option to Arsenal right now as he is set to be a free agent at the end of the season.
Livramento could cost suitors around £60m, and the North London club will face competition from the likes of Manchester City for his services.
