Arsenal have been making some crucial moves as they prepare for a key summer. The season ended on a bittersweet note. Mikel Arteta’s side came close to Premier League glory, but still need that final push to make the leap. That is why the board is already working discreetly on several operations that could mark the club’s immediate future. The priority is still the attack, and they might need a quality striker and a left winger. However, the midfield area cannot be neglected. The departure of Jorginho is forcing the club to reshuffle their cards, and the future of Thomas Partey remains unresolved.
According to the Daily Mail, Lucien Agoumé is on Arsenal’s radar as a possible replacement for Partey. The Sevilla midfielder, just 23, is coming off the back of a solid season that has not gone unnoticed. Manchester United were already interested in him in January. Now it is the north Londoners who are considering signing him if Partey ends up leaving. The Ghanaian’s situation is creating uncertainty. The club has offered him a new contract, but there is still no agreement. Meanwhile, Barça are keeping a close eye on him in the hope of signing him on a free when his contract expires on 30 June.

The interest in Agoumé is not surprising. He has similar qualities to Partey: physicality, tactical aggression, good reading and a remarkable ability to win the ball back and distribute it well. Moreover, the France player would not be an expensive signing, something that fits in with Arsenal’s strategy. The management is looking for young talent with room for growth, and the Cameroonian is a perfect fit. Sevilla could let him go if the offer is fair, and that makes him an attractive option.
The arrival of Zubimendi already fills the Jorginho gap. But if Partey leaves, the team cannot depend only on the Spaniard, Rice and Havertz. Another pivot is needed to provide defensive balance. Agoumé is not a star, but his profile can sustain the team in tight games, where you have to recover and release quickly. His adaptation will depend on the pace of the Premier League, but he has what it takes. In an inflated market, finding a quality midfielder for a low cost is not common. That’s why, if Partey doesn’t stay, Arsenal shouldn’t think too much about it. Agoumé is a reasonable bet: no noise, no fireworks, but with sporting logic.
