Arsenal have made a formal approach to Newcastle United to discuss a deal for Bruno Guimaraes.
Arsenal are understood to have enquired about the midfielder's availability this summer, with the hope that a deal could be agreed for a fee of around £55m.
Newcastle have rejected that approach, according toFabrizio Romano, insisting the club captain is not for sale at that price. The Magpies have no intention of selling Guimaraes this summer, while the Brazil international is respectful of Newcastle's stance on his future.
Guimaraes has been an integral figure for Newcastle since arriving at St James' Park from Lyon in January 2022.
He has made 195 appearances across all competitions and became the first Newcastle captain to lift a domestic trophy in 70 years, after League Cup success in 2025. The midfielder was also named Newcastle's Player of the Season for 2025/26.
It's unclear whether Arsenal will return with an improved proposal, as thePremier League champions consider midfield additions. Guimaraes' future is likely to be decided after the World Cup, where he has helped Brazil into the Round of 32.
The 28-year-old is the latest Newcastle player subjected to interest from clubs across Europe. Newcastle have sanctioned the £69m sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, while the club have rejected two approaches from Tottenham Hotspur for Sandro Tonali.
Spurs are willing to break their transfer record to land Tonali, who also has admirers at Arsenal and Manchester City. Elsewhere, Lewis Hall has attracted interest from Manchester United in recent weeks.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe insisted last month that he would not stand in the way of any player who wants to leave the club this summer.
