Arsène Wenger remains optimistic that Arsenal will win the Premier League despite Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by Manchester City. He said he was convinced they would take the title, adding that City will stumble in the run-in. According to L'Équipe, he voiced the view at a charity gala on Monday.
The stance comes as Arsenal navigate a difficult spell, with two straight league defeats and no Premier League win at the Emirates since 14 March, a 2-0 victory over Everton.
Wenger, now FIFA’s chief of global football development at 76, praised Mikel Arteta’s attacking options. He said he enjoyed watching Eberechi Eze, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke attack and try things at the Etihad against City.
He argued that City will not produce a flawless finish to the season. He does not see them winning their final six league matches, noting their run-in appears tougher than Arsenal’s on paper.
Pep Guardiola’s side can overtake Arsenal if they beat Burnley on Wednesday at 21:00.
