Arteta provides update on Timber’s injury with defender set to miss out again | OneFootball

Mikel Arteta says Jurrien Timber’s injury recovery has proved more complicated than first thought.

The defender has been sidelined since last month with an ankle problem and is set to miss out again this weekend when Arsenal take on West Ham, as they look to move one step closer to winning the Premier League title.

“That’s been probably the most difficult thing to manage with the player, with myself as well, because we didn’t expect it to take so long and at the moment he’s not fit to play,” Arteta said on the Dutchman’s recovery, adding that he still has “a lot to do” when asked if he would play again this season.

Arsenal lead Manchester City by five points though having played a game more than their title rivals and know victory at West Ham, who are battling for survival, could prove pivotal in winning the club’s first league title since 2004.

“Understanding the context of the game for both clubs, it’s huge obviously,” Arteta said. “So we know the importance of it, we know what we want and what we have to do to win the game.”
