Grêmio face Renato Portaluppi’s Vasco on Sunday, a reunion loaded with subplots for captain Arthur and forward Tetê. Renato, the club’s greatest idol, stands on the opposite bench.
According to Globo.com, the match is at São Januário at 16:00. Grêmio arrive unbeaten under Luís Castro, and their last longer sequence without defeat came in 2024 with Renato in charge.
Although Felipão, now technical coordinator, first promoted Arthur in 2015, it was under Renato that the midfielder truly broke through and earned a national team call-up.
Arthur was later sold to Barcelona. He was in the Copa do Brasil winning group, then shone in the 2017 Conmebol Libertadores triumph.
Tetê is expected to start on the bench. Before making his professional debut, he was sold to Shakhtar Donetsk and at the time lamented not receiving a first-team chance under Renato. He returned this year after spells in Europe to play for the club he supports and where he was developed.
