AS Monaco will need to sell before July, the club’s CEO revealed during a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
The Principality club’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, sounded the alarm over the state of French football, stating that “bar PSG, all clubs are in survival mode”. In Monaco’s case, there will be a need to sell before July, in order to avoid sanctions, he revealed.
The problem is not so much the DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog – but UEFA. “We have to sell someone before July, otherwise there could be UEFA sanctions […] but the priority is to protect performance,” said Scuro.
It could mean that a big player goes out the door this month. Alternatively, there is the possibility of selling right at the start of the summer, but after the conclusion of the Ligue 1 campaign. One of the main candidates for a departure will, of course, be Maghnes Akliouche.
Monaco were open to selling the France international last summer, but no club met their €70m valuation. The likes of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are both thought to retain their interest in the player.
