It has now been over two years since Paul Pogba (32) has played a professional game of football. He joined AS Monaco at the end of June. At the time of signing his two-year deal with the Principality club, a three-month programme was outlined, which would allow him to return to fitness.
That put his return date at around the start of October. We are now nearing that return date first hypothesised. Earlier this month, Monaco manager Adi Hutter provided a more specific return date, stating that he expected Pogba to return after the next international break, which comes in early/mid-October.
Each step of La Pioche’s highly anticipated return is being minutely scrutinised. At Thursday’s training session, attended by Get French Football News, he made another step on his long road to recovery.
In a press conference attended by GFFN, Adi Hutter said the following: “With Paul, we are increasing his practices. We are in the process with Paul. He needed three months, and we are getting closer and closer.”
Specifically, Pogba participated in a small game on a half-pitch for the first time today. He played the role of the ‘Joker’ in the practice session, meaning that he was a neutral player, supporting the team in possession. He has yet to complete a full training session, but he is now beginning to approach this crucial step.
