According to Le Progres, Saint-Étienne have taken training behind closed doors all week to prepare for Troyes, with pressure mounting after the loss at Bastia.
The club’s tense run-in has also been complicated by off-field factors. A planned video session before the Bastia trip had to be cancelled.
On Thursday, Philippe Montanier said there was a realisation within the group and that they needed to put every ingredient in.
With three games left, Saint-Étienne no longer fully control their fate, despite holding a three-goal advantage over Le Mans on goal difference.
Even three wins would not guarantee promotion to Ligue 1 next season. If Le Mans also take maximum points and score three more goals overall, they would go up on head-to-head, having beaten Saint-Étienne 3-2 in the first meeting before a 0-0 draw in the return.
