Tottenham Hotspur claimed a vital 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League at Villa Park on Sunday.

Conor Gallagher opened the scoring in the 12th minute after Youri Tielemans headed Kevin Danso’s long throw into his path. Gallagher picked out the bottom corner in fine fashion.

Koao Palhinha nearly doubled Spurs’ lead when he unleashed a powerful long-range strike that crashed against the post. Shortly after, Randal Kolo Muani’s volley was denied by Emiliano Martinez.

Richarlison doubled the Lilywhites’ advantage after he met Mathys Tel’s cross with a thumping header.

Tel’s effort floated wide as Spurs ended the half on the front foot.

Neither side could create any clear-cut chances until the 72nd minute, as Djed Spence rolled an effort wide of the near post.

Martinez was called into action again as he comfortably gathered Danso’s header from Pedro Porro’s corner.

Emiliano Buendia halved the deficit as he rose highest to meet Matty Cash’s cross in stoppage time.

Tottenham have moved a point above the relegation zone with three games to go.
