Aston Villa have reportedly agreed personal terms with Spanish winger Marco Asensio for a three-year contract ahead of a proposed transfer, according to Sky Sports.
Asensio, who spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Villa from Paris Saint-Germain, impressed with eight goals and one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions.
His productive spell in Birmingham has fuelled Villa’s interest in bringing him back on a permanent deal.
The 29-year-old has only one year left on his PSG contract and is set to leave having been considered surplus to requirements at the French club.
His ability to play as a number 10, winger or false nine offers tactical flexibility under Unai Emery, who is looking to strengthen Villa’s attacking options ahead of next season.
Despite interest from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Asensio appears inclined to return to the Premier League, with Villa emerging as the front runners.
The Villans will be expected to accelerate their pursuit of Asensio after completing the sale of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United for around £40 million.
Due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations, Villa have seen limited activity on the transfer front, with recent arrival Evann Guessand only their third summer signing.
Nonetheless, Villa will head into the new season with optimism as they target a return to the Champions League off the back of a sixth-place finish last time out.
The West Midlands outfit came within one win of qualifying for Europe’s premier club competition before suffering a final-day defeat to Manchester United.
