Evann Guessand has struggled for regular game time at Villa Park since completing his £30m summer move.

The Former Nice player has only made 12 starts in all competitions this season and notched just one goal, which came back in October. 

Unai Emery entrusted the French forward on Thursday in Aston Villa's trip to Basel and he delivered with an early goal. 

Guessand showed great determination to fire in the opener whilst losing balance to hand the Villans a welcome lead and the attacker ended his run of eight games without a goal.

Villa couldn't hold their first-half lead as Basel levelled in the 34th minute.
