Aston Villa are accelerating their summer transfer business with a double raid on Paris Saint-Germain, as they close in on a move for teenage prodigy Ibrahim Mbaye while also showing interest in goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
Manager Unai Emery is determined to cement Villa’s status among Europe’s elite, and the Europa League champions are expected to be busy in the market.
Talks to bring Mbaye to Villa Park are progressing quickly, and there is growing confidence on the English side that a deal can be finalised.
The versatile Senegal international has emerged as one of the most exciting young wide talents in Europe, notably becoming PSG’s youngest-ever starter.
Despite scoring three goals and providing two assists in limited starts under Luis Enrique, Mbaye is eager for regular first-team football, something Emery is ready to offer along with the draw of Champions League action.
At the same time, Villa have shown strong interest in goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who recently joined PSG from Lille.
The young French shot-stopper has slipped down the pecking order at Parc des Princes, losing his starting spot to Matvey Safonov.
Villa’s pursuit of Chevalier suggests a potential change in goal at Villa Park, with current number one Emiliano Martinez widely expected to leave the club.
While PSG are under no immediate financial pressure to sell Mbaye, they may be tempted by the chance to secure a significant profit on their academy ‘phenomenon’.
Securing both Mbaye and Chevalier would be a major statement of intent from Aston Villa ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.
