Aston Villa ‘deserved more’ from Palace draw as winless run continues | OneFootball

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery admitted his side need to cut out the mistakes after drawing with Crystal Palace at home on Saturday.

Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring after just three minutes, but Ollie Watkins cancelled it out in the 36th minute with his sixth Premier League goal of the season.

But Villa went into the break a goal behind after 21-year-old midfielder Justin Devenny scored in first-half injury time in just his second top-flight appearance.

The hosts had moments earlier missed from the spot when Youri Tielemans saw his penalty saved by Dean Henderson. Palace went up the other end following the resultant corner kick to score on a quick counter.

Ross Barkley came to the rescue with 13 minutes left on the clock when his glancing header found its way into the net to save a point for the Villans.

“We deserved more but we made some mistakes that we need to correct,” Emery told Sky Sports. “We had chances to score, we came back. The penalty was a key moment.

“In the second half we pushed and felt close to scoring, but we have to accept one point.”

When asked about Villa’s vulnerability to transitions, Emery responded: “We are working on it. The players are concerned as well.

Villa, who sit eighth in the Premier League table on 19 points, have now failed to win any of their last six matches in all competitions.
