Aston Villa have held talks with the representatives of Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes as they prepare for Emiliano Martinez’s potential departure, according to The Athletic.

Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has also been sounded out, but he will attract more suitors after impressing for Japan at the World Cup.

Restes has emerged as a serious option for Villa. The Villans have held talks with his representatives, and Toulouse are open to selling him.

A deal could be struck for around £20 million, and the 21-year-old could be open to a move to the Premier League.

Restes has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Lille, but Villa are currently pushing for a move and will make a concrete offer once it becomes clear Martinez is leaving.

The France youth international has played over 100 games for Toulouse and has much-needed experience despite his age.

His distribution from the back is one of his major strengths, which is why manager Unai Emery views him as an ideal successor to Martinez.

Restes also boasts impressive reflexes and is confident in one-on-one situations, often making unbelievable saves.

He is perfect for Villa’s style of play, and an agreement could be struck very soon if talks progress in the coming weeks.
