Aston Villa are in talks to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha on loan, according to The Athletic.
Villa manager Unai Emery wants new midfielders at the Midlands club after Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United and Amadou Onana suffered a knee ligament injury at the World Cup.
The Villans are closing in on a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, while SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi is also set to join them after agreeing a deal.
Villa also want Palhinha in a temporary deal after the Portuguese spent last season on loan with Tottenham Hotspur.
He made 45 appearances and weighed in with seven goals and three assists.
Spurs decided against activating the €30 million option to sign him permanently and Villa are looking to bring him back to the Premier League.
Palhinha is available to leave Bayern this summer and the Bundesliga club reportedly want around €24m.
The 31-year-old had interest from Saudi Arabia but is also wanted by Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
Benfica manager Marco Silva is eyeing a reunion with the Villa target after their time together at Fulham.
However, playing in the Premier League could appeal to Palhinha, and the availability of Champions League football at Villa Park could also lure him into a move.
The Midlands need quality cover across all positions as they look to impress in Europe next season, and the Portuguese could prove to be a quality addition in midfield.
