According to a report from L’Équipe, Aston Villa are preparing for the expected departure of Emiliano Martínez (33) by readying an offer for RC Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser (21).
The Lens man joined the club from RC Strasbourg Alsace after a successful loan in Ligue 2 with Red Star, and prior to that, a season on loan in the Championnat National with Dijon SCO.
Risser was one of the stars of Lens’s impressive season, where they won the Coupe de France for the first time in club history and ran Paris Saint-Germain close in the Ligue 1 title race (taking until the penultimate game of the season for the league title to be settled).
Risser’s exploits won the attention of Didier Deschamps, who named him as the third-choice goalkeeper in the France squad for the World Cup. As well as catching the attention of Premier League clubs.
L’Équipe writes that Aston Villa will make an offer to attempt to gauge Lens’s demands, with it expected that the French club will not accept his departure readily.
