Aston Villa push to sign Emerson Royal for under £10 million | OneFootball

Aston Villa are pushing to sign Emerson Royal as their first summer addition. The Brazil international is being targeted to provide cover and competition for first-choice right-back Matty Cash.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, talks remain ongoing with Flamengo and Villa hope to agree a fee under £10 million.

Recruiting a right-back is a leading priority, with Andres Garcia expected to depart either permanently or on loan.

Royal, 27, joined Flamengo from AC Milan last summer, having previously spent three years at Tottenham from 2021 to 2024, making more than 100 appearances.

With experience in the Premier League and Champions League, a deal is viewed as good value as Villa again juggle financial restrictions.

Unai Emery also wants a striker and two attacking wide players. Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen are of interest, along with Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye.

Spending power will be shaped by departures, and the outcome of Morgan Rogers’ situation is set to define the window. The England international is a top target for Arsenal, though the champions are yet to make a formal approach.

Elsewhere, Victor Lindelof played down injury fears after Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Japan at the World Cup. Captaining his country, he was substituted in the 87th minute and later explained he had suffered severe cramp in both calves. The draw sealed Sweden’s progress to the last-32.
