Aston Villa will assess Tammy Abraham when he reports for pre-season following recent shoulder surgery.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 28-year-old had a procedure last week to address a longstanding issue after playing through pain late in the campaign. A recovery timeline is unclear, with Villa expecting a better idea once he returns to Bodymoor Heath next month.

Abraham made 16 appearances for Unai Emery’s side after arriving from Besiktas for £18.25 million in January, starting only four times as Ollie Watkins led the line.

He previously scored 26 goals on a season-long loan from Chelsea, helping Villa win promotion from the Championship in 2019.

Villa will face Walsall at Walsall’s Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on Tuesday, July 21, at 7.30pm, then play Real Sociedad there on Saturday, July 25, at 3pm.

They will also face Bayern Munich in Hong Kong on August 7, then travel to Borussia Monchengladbach on August 15. Their first competitive match falls between those dates, against Paris Saint-Germain in the European Super Cup in Salzburg on August 12.
