Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana (24) is expected to be sidelined for at least nine months, according to AFPThe 24-year-old Belgium international midfielder sustained an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee during the Red Devils’ 4-1 win over the USA in the 2026 World Cup last-16 round in Seattle’s Lumen Field.

Given the timeframe set over his recovery, Onana could target a return to action in April 2027. It is a considerable blow for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa given his importance for the Villans. Onana featured 38 times for the Birmingham-based club last season. Onana has been operated on by reknown French surgeon Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet at Lyon’s Jean-Mermoz clinic on Tuesday.
