Passionate about Ceará due to his father’s “free and spontaneous pressure,” as professor José Aragão jokingly put it, 13-year-old student Lucca Fontes Aragão achieved a memorable feat by being accepted, at age 12, into the Mathematics program at the State University of Ceará (Uece). In the entrance exam, the student placed 29th, with 190 points. The achievement led Lucca to be featured on the BBC News Brasil website and, by his own choice, he decided to appear on the cover of the report wearing a shirt of the People’s Team.

“It was my own wish. What do I like? Ceará. I’m going to appear to help my team,” explained Lucca Fontes Aragão.

Diagnosed as gifted and with an intelligence quotient (IQ) of 136, Lucca dreams of studying at the Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA) or at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the United States. Before standing out in his studies, however, he was part of Fábrica de Craques from ages five to 11 and took part in evaluations to join Ceará’s youth academy in Itaitinga, Ceará.

Because of the need to balance his sports routine with his studies, the student chose to devote himself to academic life. The decision brought remarkable results, such as first place in Level 1 of the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad (OBM), with a perfect score, as well as gold medals in the Brazilian Physics Olympiad (OBF) and the Brazilian Informatics Olympiad (OBI).

“When I was advancing in my studies, I had a choice: either be an Olympic athlete or a soccer player. It wasn’t possible to balance both. So I chose what was easier for me: mathematics,” he said.

“I’m always in class, with my phone in my pocket and notifications turned on when there’s a match. If I have time, I watch on my phone or on TV. I get anxious to see our Vozão win,” he added.

Invited by the director of the Cultural Center, Thiago Eloi, Lucca Aragão and his father, José Aragão, got to know the structure of the Carlos de Alencar Pinto Training Center (CAP), in Porangabuçu. On the occasion, they visited the Club’s museum, saw the professional football facilities, spoke with players Lucca and Melk, and watched part of the training session in preparation for the match against Avaí.

In addition, the two will be present at this Wednesday’s match, the 10th, at Presidente Vargas Stadium, at the invitation of the People’s Team.

“I would like to thank Ceará. It was an extraordinary invitation. To see from the inside how the structure works so synergistically... I can only be grateful!” José Aragão concluded.
