The Blues pursued Jacquet for the majority of the January window, and it appeared at one point they were going to sign the France under-21 international from Rennes.
However, towards the end of the window Jacquet agreed a £61m move to Liverpool, and days later picked up a shoulder injury which kept him out for the entire second half of the season.
For the Blues it was another target they missed out on at centre back, and they ended up recalling Mamadou Sarr from his loan at Strasbourg.
Chelsea are still in the market for a centre back this summer, and Jacquet has now explained why he opted to move to Anfield over Stamford Bridge.
“And as for my decision, I won’t say it was a quick one, because I took my time with this big step. But I quickly saw myself at Liverpool,” he told Ouest France.
“I heard they [Liverpool] arrived last minute, but that’s not true. I’d been talking to them for a long time. There were others. [Man United] For example, but other clubs not mentioned. It didn’t happen in a week.
“At Chelsea, I felt there were quite a lot of people. Whereas at Liverpool, apart from the fact that [Virgil] Van Dijk is nearing the end of his career, training with him is going to be huge.
“He’s going to teach me so much. There’s also Ibou Konaté who can help me settle in. It doesn’t get any better than that. The history weighed heavily on my decision, but so did the project they offered me.”
