Atalanta have confirmed the appointment of former Juventus and Napoli executive Cristiano Giuntoli as their sporting director, effective immediately. The club said in a statement that he joins their sporting structure and was welcomed by the Percassi and Pagliuca families.

Born in Florence, Giuntoli began in club management at 36, initially with Spezia. He then oversaw Carpi's rise, four promotions in five years to reach Serie A for the first time.

The 54-year-old moved to Napoli in 2015 and spent eight seasons. He won the Coppa Italia in 2019/20 and helped secure the club's third Serie A title in 2022/23.

Giuntoli left as reigning champion to join Juventus as managing director, football, in summer 2023. Juve won the Coppa Italia in the first of his two seasons.

He was later dismissed and had been out of work since the end of the 2024-25 season before Atalanta's move.

Notable Napoli buys included Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for €11.5m, Kim Min-jae for about €18m, plus Piotr Zielinski and Stanislav Lobotka. At Juventus, Khephren Thuram, Francisco Conceicao and Pierre Kalulu were seen as good value, while the costly deals for Douglas Luiz and Teun Koopmeiners, over €100m combined, have not worked out.
