Athletic and Udinese in talks over Unai Gómez, no deal yet | OneFootball

Athletic are prepared to raise funds from player sales, with a packed midfield and no European campaign shaping decisions. Udinese are keen on Unai Gómez, though no deal is in place.

According to as.com, the Bermeo-born midfielder is set to report for pre-season under new head coach Edin Terzic at Lezama next Monday for physical tests.

A homegrown player, Gómez would not find a move straightforward, and talks naturally involve three parties. Udinese, who have former Athletic midfielder Oier Zarraga, value the 23-year-old’s intensity. He is contracted until June 2028 and viewed as having room to grow.

The transfer window runs until 31 August, despite the push to conclude business quickly. Timing could prove decisive in this case.

Separately, Athletic are also minded to seek a fee for Julen Agirrezabala and streamline the goalkeeping group of Unai Simón, Padilla and Mikel Santos. Deportivo appear to prefer Leo Román, while Iñigo Pérez’s Villarreal have entered the picture.
