Athletic squad show support for injured Egiluz after fresh ACL blow | OneFootball

Athletic have rallied around Unai Egiluz after the centre-back suffered another serious right knee injury in training on Thursday.

The club issued a medical update on Friday confirming a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament graft in his right knee, and said recovery is expected to take several months.

Egiluz sustained the same injury last summer, undergoing surgery on six August.

After months out, he returned to the pitch at Lezama in February under Valverde, using several weeks to regain rhythm. He was named in the matchday squad on five April against Getafe, then again for the trip to Espanyol, but he did not come on.

On Sunday, ahead of the meeting with Celta, Athletic’s starters posed before kick-off with shirts bearing his number 13, a clear show of support.
