In a major development, Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito reports that Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez has informed the Rojiblancos that he wants to join FC Barcelona in the summer.

Contacts are taking place through intermediaries to explore the possibility of a transfer.

Furthermore, the same journalist claims that Barcelona are preparing an initial offer of around €70-75 million for the Argentine international.

It is evident that Alvarez is highly regarded by Barcelona’s sporting management, as the club seeks a strategic attacking signing to take another step forward competitively, particularly in Europe.

It is also starting to become clear that the Argentine forward would not be opposed to a move to the Spotify Camp Nou, even though he dismissed the rumours in a recent media interaction.

Alvarez’s desire to make the switch will be key in negotiations, as Atletico Madrid value their ace goalscorer at €120 million – a figure that is much higher than the offer that Barcelona are reportedly planning.

There may be the possibility of the Blaugrana offering players in exchange as part of the deal to lower the cost, with there being some stars in the Catalans’ squad that are admired by Atletico Madrid.

As per the journalist, an agent who has good relations with both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona could intervene to mediate negotiations and help finalise an agreement.

Nothing is certain at this moment, but Alvarez and Barcelona are starting to make their moves in order to push for a transfer come summer.
