Atlético Madrid eyeing move for Sporting CP star | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have set their sights on the signature of a versatile member of the first-choice XI at Sporting CP.

The player in question? Maxi Araújo.

Araújo, for his part, is in the midst of nothing short of a brilliant individual campaign in Portugal to date.

Capable of lining out at either left-back or in a more advanced role on the left wing, the Uruguay international has dazzled in Sporting’s colours, en route to seven goals and four assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

Such exploits have not gone at all unnoticed across the continent, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus having all been credited with a keen interest in Araújo.

And as alluded to above, adding their name to this list of suitors over recent months were none other than Atlético Madrid.

As per a report from Diario AS, the Rojiblancos, amid a search for reinforcements on the left flank, have circled Araújo’s name in red.

Atléti could in turn launch an assault on his signature as soon as this summer.

The 26-year-old will not come cheap, though, expected to command a fee in the region of €50 million.
