Barcelona transfer news surrounding Ferran Torres has a new update, with Atletico Madrid reportedly ruling themselves out of the race for the Barcelona forward. 

According to The Athletic, despite growing speculation in recent days, the Madrid-based club has no intention of signing the Spain international this summer.

The report provides another important update on Ferran Torres’ future, which has become one of the biggest stories of the Barcelona summer transfer window. 

Questions continue to surround the 26-year-old, not only because of increased competition following Karim Adeyemi’s arrival at Barcelona, but also due to the financial implications of offering him a new contract.

In the past few days, it had been suggested Atletico Madrid were interested in signing Ferran Torres, partly because sporting director Mateu Alemany was responsible for bringing the winger to Camp Nou during his time at Barcelona.

However, the aforementioned outlet reports that a senior Atletico Madrid source has dismissed those claims, insisting the Metropolitano club is not considering a move for the Spaniard despite the ongoing speculation.

That development means Ferran Torres to Atletico Madrid is currently not viewed as a realistic possibility, forcing Barcelona to explore alternative solutions if they eventually decide to sell the Spain international.

So what now?

Notably, one of the biggest reasons why Barcelona are open to selling Ferran Torres is the financial clause included in his original transfer from Manchester City.

As previously revealed, Barcelona would have to pay Manchester City between €7 million and €8 million if Ferran Torres signs a contract extension, increasing the overall cost of his transfer.

That agreement has complicated Barcelona contract renewal talks with the forward, while Karim Adeyemi’s Barcelona transfer has also intensified competition across the front line.

All things considered, Ferran Torres’ future at Camp Nou is still uncertain regardless of the fact that Atletico Madrid have denied interest in the Spaniard.
