Liverpool could be priced out of a potential 2026 transfer offer for Atletico Madrid talisman Julian Alvarez.
The Argentina international has been in sensational form since the start of his second campaign in Madrid with six goals in seven games so far in 2025/26.
29 goals in all competitions in 2024/25 underlined his level as a world class forward but there were summer rumours he could have left in August.
Simeone has spoken glowingly on Alvarez, who he hopes to have at his disposal for many years to come – despite links with Barcelona and a Premier League return
“Julián is the best player we have. We need to take care of him, make sure that he is here for many years at Atleti. He has to help us, and we have to help him, so that he may be even better than he already is. Every time he makes a difference, he helps us tremendously.”
Alongside that bold link to Barcelona, Arne Slot is rumoured to be considering an offer at Liverpool, after seeing his post FIFA Club World Cup interest rejected.

Liverpool were linked with an offer for Alvarez, before his move from Manchester City to Madrid, but Pep Guardiola rejected the idea of bolstering a direct rival in the Premier League,
As per reports from Football Insider, Liverpool have been told they will need to pay £100m+ for the third time, after breaking the Premier League transfer record twice this summer via moves for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
Slot spent £420m overall this summer, but they club will back him again in 2026, but they will bankroll an offer of that amount.
With Isak and Hugo Ekitike are already in place, but Slot is planning for life after Mohamed Salah in 2027, but Simeone will not accept anything less that £100m for his main man if a sale is forced.
