Atletico Madrid are currently waiting for a formal apology from star forward Julian Alvarez following a controversial bombshell statement that has thrown his future at the club into serious doubt.

The rift between the player and the club hierarchy has widened significantly, especially as intense transfer interest continues to mount from rivals Barcelona.

Atletico expecting an apology

According to an exclusive report from El Chiringuito TV, the tension inside the Atletico camp reached a boiling point after Alvarez made public comments regarding his situation.

“The best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream,” he said earlier this week.

“This isn’t the time to talk about this, but I can’t hide either. I try to be an honest person, and I’ve already spoken with the club officials and the people I needed to talk to.”

Atletico are displeased with the timing and nature of the striker’s remarks, viewing them as an unnecessary disruption to team harmony.

Club officials have made it clear that they expect the Argentine international to issue an apology to repair the fractured relationship with the management and the fans.

Meanwhile, it not entirely ruled out that Atletico Madrid CEO flies out to the USA to hold talks with the club’s new investors, Apollo, who for now continue to maintain that they are not willing to listen to offers for the Argentine.

Barcelona waiting calmly

The drama unfolds amidst aggressive speculation linking Alvarez with a high-profile move to Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are monitoring the situation closely, waiting for the right moment to send their new offer for the Argentine striker to the Metropolitano.

Barcelona continue to see the 26-year-old as the absolute priority target to replace Robert Lewandowski, and are prepared to offer around €130 million to sign him from Los Rojiblancos.

At the same time, Atletico Madrid are also furious with Barcelona regarding the whole situation involving Alvarez.

In fact, Gil Marin has already confirmed that the club intend to file a complaint against the Catalan giants with FIFA.

“Our responsibility is to defend the interests of Atletico Madrid, and that is why we are going to file a complaint with FIFA against Barcelona for negotiating with a player who had a valid contract during the protected period,” he said.

For now, the focus remains on Alvarez’s next move and whether a reconciliation with the club hierarchy is possible in case they refuse to sanction a move to Barcelona.
