According to AS, Atlético are preparing for Saturday's trip to Valencia at 16:15 with more rotation, not only for rest around the Arsenal ties but also because of knocks. Several players will not travel to Mestalla. One positive is that Giménez is edging closer to a return.
The Uruguayan provided the lift in training. Injured in the Atleti-Barça league match on 4 April, he took part in group work as part of a phased return. He is not yet fully back with the squad, but could soon train at full intensity.
Elsewhere, Julián Alvarez, Giuliano and Sorloth, who underwent tests on Thursday, remain on individual programmes as they try to be ready for Tuesday at the Emirates. Marcos Llorente also worked separately for workload management, and Hancko stepped out after the opening phase for the same reason. Regular starters are being handled carefully to arrive in top shape.
As a result, Simeone is shaping a squad in which several familiar faces will sit out. Nico Gonzalez and Barrios are also unavailable.
The reserve side, El Madrileño, who play on Sunday at 12:00 in Torremolinos, will supplement the travelling party and potentially the starting XI. Boñar, Julio Díaz and possibly another youngster are in line to be included.
