Sky Germany reports that Augsburg winger Ruben Vargas is on the verge of joining Sevilla with the Spanish side pushing to complete the move in this window.
Vargas’ contract at Augsburg expires in the summer with Sevilla and Borussia Mönchengladbach both said to be interested in the Swiss international.
The Spanish side are said to have already agreed a move at the end of his contract in the summer but the pair are now discussing the possibility of getting the deal done this month. The fee for Vargas will likely be around €1.5-2m, but if a deal cannot be agreed this month, Vargas will still move to Andalusia in the summer.
The 26-year-old has been at Augsburg for six seasons but this season he has mainly played a role off of the bench as manager Jess Thorup has moved away from using wingers.
Sevilla are currently 14th in LaLiga and at the club he will join up with fellow Bundesliga alumni Dodi Lukebakio (former Hertha Berlin, Wolfsburg and Fortuna Düsseldorf), Chidera Ejkue (formerly of Hertha), Djibril Sow (ex-Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder), Tanguy Nianzou (former Bayern Munich defender) and Ørjan Nyland (former Ingolstadt and three-time RB Leipzig keeper).
