AZ Alkmaar considering FC Midtjylland midfielder as an alternative to Thom van Bergen | OneFootball

VI are reporting that AZ Alkmaar are considering a move for FC Midtjylland midfielder Valdemar Byskov as an alternative to FC Groningen’s Thom van Bergen. While van Bergen has been keen to join AZ Alkmaar, the two clubs have struggled to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. As a result, AZ Alkmaar are considering going for Byskov instead.

The 21-year-old Danish youth international has spent his last four years playing for Midtjylland, with a brief loan spell at Mafra during the 2023/2024 season. After four goals and two assists in 34 games during the 2024/2025 season, Byskov had a real breakout season last year. In 49 games for Midtjylland he scored nine goals and provided five assists. The 21-year-old midfielder has also been capped at youth level by Denmark, from U17 all the way up to U21.

Nothing has yet been agreed between AZ Alkmaar and the Danish club, but discussions are said to be ongoing between clubs and the player.
