Bahia host Corinthians on Sunday at 16:00 Brasília time, with a simmering boardroom row set to spill onto the pitch. The friction centres on Kauê Furquim’s transfer and a collapsed move involving a City-linked winger.
According to Globo.com, Corinthians accuse Bahia of illicit and immoral inducement in Kauê’s exit last August for R$ 14 million, the then release clause. The São Paulo club say Bahia acted as an intermediary for Grupo City’s European sides, and president Osmar Stabile cut institutional ties and took the case to FIFA and the CBF.
Now 17, Kauê is in Rogério Ceni’s senior squad, with nine appearances this season, two goals and one assist. No decision has gone in Corinthians’ favour so far.
Months later, Corinthians tried a truce by lining up a deal for attacker Kaiky, with salary and term agreed, and the player hinting at the switch on social media. When documents went from CT Joaquim Grava to Parque São Jorge, the statutory board blocked it, the president judging a pact with Grupo City hypocritical despite staff wanting a player of Kaiky’s profile.
After that, Kayky joined Internacional. On the field, Corinthians have won their last three Brasileirão matches and are seventh on 27 points, Bahia are sixth with 26. Victory at the Fonte Nova would allow Corinthians to leapfrog Bahia, and Fernando Diniz’s side are chasing a Conmebol Libertadores berth, with a strong result viewed as vital.
