Bajung Darboe: Following in the footsteps of Richards, Booth & Co | OneFootball

FC Bayern have signed Bajung Darboe for their reserve team. The American attacker will wear the shirt of the German record champions from now on. In this interview, the 18-year-old talks about his first few days in Munich, his sporting abilities and his goals with his new club.

Servus, Bajung! You've just signed your first contract at FC Bayern. How have the last few days been for you? "A big dream has come true for me. It's nice to see where my path has taken me. It was always a big wish of mine to get to pull on the shirt of this great club one day. The fact it's happened now fills me with a lot of pride. I'm still battling the jet lag but otherwise I feel good and ready to get started."

FCB II new signing Bajung Darboe has featured twice for the USA U17s to date.

What was your family's reaction to your move to FC Bayern? "My family are proud, they're very happy for me. My parents have accompanied me all the way on my journey and are very happy that the efforts of the past years have paid off. Without their support I wouldn't be here today. I have a lot to thank them for."

Let's talk about your home country: what standing does FC Bayern have in the USA? "The club has great appeal all over the world, including in the USA. Because a few national team players have played here in the past, like Chris Richards, Malik Tillman and Taylor Booth, FC Bayern has a very high standing."

Bajung Darboe made 15 appearances for the LAFC second team before his move to FC Bayern.

How would you describe yourself as a player? "I'm comfortable in several positions in attack, so I'm versatile. I like to use my pace down the wings and go for goal myself, but I always have my head up and look for team-mates in better positions."

Do you have a role model? "I always looked up to Cristiano Ronaldo when I was a child. At Bayern I look up to Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman and most of all Joshua Kimmich. His mentality and discipline are incredible."

The 18-year-old attacker can't wait to train with his new team-mates.

How well do you know the reserve team already? "I previously spent a number of weeks with the team as part of a trial. Everyone welcomed me with open arms then and made the start easy for me, so I also know most of the guys already."

What are your short-term goals here at FC Bayern? "First I want to settle in here, get used to life at the Campus and get to know everyone. Our training camp in Spain will also help with that."
