Mohamed Timoumi, the former captain of the Moroccan national team, believes that his compatriot Achraf Hakimi is the clear frontrunner to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
He shared this opinion in an exclusive statement to Foot Africa.
Regardless of the fact that he is my compatriot, Achraf Hakimi fully deserves to win this trophy after his outstanding season with Paris Saint-Germain, especially for his key role in the historic UEFA Champions League victory in 2024-2025, as well as securing the silver medal at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.In my opinion, he is on the fast track to claim the 2025 Ballon d’Or, especially since no other player has matched his performances over the past season.Personally, I am impressed by the consistency of his performances over the past years. It is not easy for a player to leave his mark at every club he has played for, considering the various factors such as adaptation and the diversity of tactical philosophies.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back was named among the 30 nominees for this prestigious award, which honors the best player of the year and will be presented to the winner on September 21, 2025.
The former Real Madrid man seems well on his way to becoming only the second African player to claim the Ballon d’Or, after the Liberian who won the award in 1995.
Hakimi was simply outstanding during the 2025-2026 season. In 55 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain across all competitions, he scored 11 goals and provided 16 assists. Additionally, he netted 2 goals and delivered one assist with the Atlas Lions.
