Flamengo dismissed head coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday and have announced Leonardo Jardim as his successor, granting him full control at Ninho do Urubu.
O Globo reports that Jardim will have complete autonomy over the dressing room and squad management, including the power to demand standards and apply consequences when required.
Bap and José Boto opted for Jardim partly due to his disciplinarian profile, and the president and the football director intend to step back from day-to-day matters to leave them in the coach’s hands.
Before Wednesday’s training, football director José Boto presented Jardim to the squad, then departed to allow the coach to work with the group.
Jardim also led the session on Wednesday before his official unveiling on the club’s social channels. He was seen speaking closely with Gonzalo Plata and offered praise for the team’s movement.
His previous job was at Cruzeiro in 2025, when the club finished third in the Brasileirão with 70 points and qualified for the Copa Libertadores. Across 55 matches, his side recorded 25 wins, 18 draws and 12 defeats.
Jardim is expected to be on the touchline on Sunday when Flamengo face Fluminense in the Campeonato Carioca final at the Maracanã, kick-off 18:00 Brasília time.
