Barboza has signed a contract to join Palmeiras from the second half of 2026, with an arrangement covering his remaining Botafogo games. According to Globo.com, the deal lets the centre-back complete this run-in before moving.

He bade farewell to the Brasileirão on Sunday, making his 12th appearance against Corinthians, the maximum permitted to remain eligible to switch within the same competition. From now, he will only feature in the Sudamericana. Botafogo asked Palmeiras to allow his use during this period.

In the directors’ view, nothing else is required for formalisation, with medical tests carried out on 7 May in Rio de Janeiro. Palmeiras are waiting for his farewell to be concluded, after which he will report to the Academia de Futebol for announcement.

The fee is about four million dollars, roughly R$ 20 million at the current rate, to be paid to Botafogo in instalments.

Given that outlay, Palmeiras have paused talks for Nino, who won the Russian league with Zenit on Sunday. The club have not officially ended their interest, as the window runs from 20 July to 3 September, but tabling a bid this week is off the table.

Palmeiras had agreed personal terms with Nino, including salary, and lodged an initial offer of seven million euros, but Zenit did not wish to negotiate before the end of the championship.
