Barcelona have filed a prior conciliation demand ahead of a calumny complaint, asking Florentino to withdraw accusations against the club. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the move targets remarks linking Barça’s trophies to its past relationship with former refereeing official José María Enríquez Negreira.

The case centres on comments made on 12 May at a press conference and in a television interview the following day. In those interventions, Florentino Pérez characterised the affair as the biggest corruption scandal in football history and alleged referees profited from Barcelona’s money. He also said he had won seven European Cups and seven leagues, adding he could have had 14 because they were stolen.

Barcelona contend those claims amount to calumny under article 205 of the Penal Code, which covers falsely imputing a crime or showing reckless disregard for the truth. If spread publicly, the offence carries imprisonment of six months to two years or a fine of six to 24 months.

Through the mandatory conciliation act, the club seeks a retraction of specific statements it deems false, calumnious and damaging to its reputation.

If Florentino does not comply when cited by the court, Barcelona will file the corresponding criminal complaint.
