Barcelona’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has taken a sharp turn, with Inter Milan making it clear that any move for Alessandro Bastoni will not come cheap.

It is known that the Italian centre-back has emerged as one of the priority targets for Barcelona, but early reports surrounding a potential €50 million offer have not gone down well in Milan.

In fact, sources from TuttoSport suggest that Inter directors ‘laughed’ at such figures, viewing them as well below the player’s true market value.

Despite the growing noise around the deal, the reality remains that Barcelona have not yet made formal contact with Inter to begin negotiations.

While the interest is real, it has so far been limited to discussions with the player’s entourage rather than direct club-to-club talks.

Inter Milan’s position

From Inter, there is a feeling that before anything else can move forward, they expect the player himself to take a step.

As such, Bastoni would need to communicate his intention to leave, something that has not yet happened.

The defender is understood to be weighing his options carefully, as Inter are still offering a compelling project.

There is even the possibility of him becoming a future captain at Inter, which adds further complexity to the situation.

While a move abroad appeals to him, particularly the chance to join Barcelona, he is not rushing into a decision.

What is the valuation?

Should the situation progress, reports indicate that Inter would only consider serious negotiations starting at around €60 million, with additional bonuses, raising to €70 million, likely required to complete any deal.

At Barcelona, they are believed to be exploring creative solutions, including the possibility of structuring a deal that involves a player exchange to reduce the overall cost.

There is cautious optimism within the Catalan club that Bastoni would be open to the move, but for now, the process remains in its early stages.

Until the player makes his intentions clear and Barcelona step forward with a concrete proposal, this transfer is likely to remain one of speculation rather than reality.
