Barcelona are facing yet another injury crisis ahead of their upcoming La Liga clash with Girona.

Several key players, including Fermin Lopez, Raphinha, Dani Olmo, and Gavi, are all recovering from respective injuries, creating fresh concerns for Hansi Flick.

While there is some hope that a few could return in time, doubts remain over how much the manager will be able to rely on them during the match.

In the middle of these challenges, Barça Athletic might once again come to the rescue. One name that has recently emerged as a promising solution is Toni Fernandez, a 17-year-old versatile talent from the academy.

The youngster has so far played nine official minutes for the first team and is among the homegrown players to have made their senior debut under Flick.

Making a strong case

With several attacking options sidelined, Toni has placed himself firmly in contention for a call-up.

His recent performances for the Spain U-18 national team have further strengthened his case, especially after his outstanding display in the Four Nations Tournament against Turkey, where he scored twice in a 3-1 win.

During that game, Toni entered the field right after the break, with the score tied at 1-1. His energy and movement instantly changed the tempo of the match.

He netted Spain’s second goal in the 50th minute and later sealed the victory with another strike, a performance that clearly caught attention back in Barcelona.

Trouble for Barcelona

Meanwhile, Olmo’s recent injury while on international duty has complicated Flick’s planning even further.

With both Fermin Lopez and Raphinha unlikely to recover in time, Flick is short on creative players.

One possible tactical adjustment could see Marc Casado occupy the pivot role, allowing Pedri to push higher up the pitch.

However, if Flick turns once again to La Masia, Toni could be given his first major opportunity of the season.
