FC Barcelona started their Spanish Super Cup campaign last night with a win against Athletic Club. The Catalans came out of this match with a 2-0 win, and have thus qualified for the final of the competition.
The Blaugranes’ two goals were scored by Gavi and Lamine Yamal. These would have been special goals for both of them as Gavi has recently returned from a long-term injury and Yamal also returned to the pitch following a minor injury that he suffered last month.
Meanwhile, the striker Robert Lewandowski was unable to get on the scoresheet. He got a very good chance to do so in the second half, but he missed this chance to add another goal to his tally. This miss also brought to an end his record of scoring in every Spanish Super Cup game he has played.
However, this was not the only concern for the Pole on the night, as Mundo Deportivo notes that he left the stadium limping at the end of the game. The Polish striker did not seem to be suffering any problems when he was substituted for Ferran Torres in the second half, but afterwards, he looked to be suffering from pain in his right ankle.
Fortunately, for now, the first examinations have not indicated any serious issues, and Lewandowski seems to be suffering only from a knock.
Thus, barring any setbacks or surprises, he will be able to start for Flick in the final of this competition. The opponents that Barcelona will have to face in this final will be determined tonight, as Real Madrid and Mallorca are set to face off in the second semi-final.
Hopefully, there are no setbacks for such an important player, and he will be able to play and help Barcelona secure their first title of the season on Sunday.
