The biggest priority for FC Barcelona coming into the summer was the signing of a new center-forward following the departure of Robert Lewandowski.

The need for a new striker has only grown as Ferran Torres flirts with a possible move to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving the La Liga champions in a difficult situation.

The sporting department, led by director Deco, has identified Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid as their primary target and has been working on a deal for the Argentine for weeks but with no success.

Los Rojiblancos have time and again made it abundantly clear that they will not sell the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, who himself is keen on moving to the Spotify Camp Nou.

Amidst all this, according to reports relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have been offered the chance to sign Galatasaray and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen.

Indeed, the 27-year-old Nigerian international has been offered to the Blaugrana, along with Arsenal, and Tottenham during the current transfer window.

As per the report, Tottenham are said to have submitted a proposal worth more than €55 million, although that figure remains well below Galatasaray’s €75 million valuation, leaving negotiations some distance from an agreement.

Barcelona unlikely to pursue avenue

Despite the opportunity to sign Osimhen, as things stand, Barcelona are unlikely to explore the avenue, even though they are in desperate need of a new top striker.

As reported previously, the Nigerian international has a lofty salary expectations of €15 million per season, which is way above the Blaugrana’s budget.

Furthermore, there are concerns about his attitude and the possibility of him causing disharmony in the Barça dressing room. As such, a move for the Nigerian ace appears unlikely as far as the Catalans are concerned.

Atletico Madrid also offered Osimhen

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s rivals, Atletico Madrid, too have been offered the services of Osimhen, possibly as a replacement for Alvarez.

However, the Colchoneros have rejected the chance to sign him despite the player’s admiration for Diego Simeone and willingness to reduce his wage demands.

Atleti remain firm that they are not planning to sell Alvarez, and therefore, have no need for a new striker in their squad.

This development comes even as Barcelona director Deco and head of scouting Joao Amaral have flown to Madrid to meet with Alvarez’s agent.
