After a spectacular World Cup campaign, Rodri’s future has become a subject of much discussion in the transfer market this summer.

After a successful spell at Manchester City, the midfielder is expected to leave Etihad this sumemr, and a return to Spain could be on the cards.

Naturally, Barcelona and Real Madrid have emerged as the two possible destinations, with Real Madrid, in particular, already in pole position to sign the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

A recent report from SPORT has offered a comprehensive update on Barcelona’s view on the entire Rodri saga.

The Catalans are aware that Real Madrid are in advanced talks to sign Rodri and that the player himself favours a move to Santiago Bernabeu, with Madrid being his home city.

Barcelona also believe Rodri’s €75 million price tag is wayward for a player who has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

Keeping that in mind, the Catalans will only consider a move for Rodri if the player himself chooses a move to Camp Nou ahead of joining Real Madrid.

The club, after all, are in need for a new midfielder following the injury to Frenkie de Jong. But several things must go right if the Blaugrana are to make an attempt to sign the Spanish international this summer.

It is clear that between Real Madrid and Barcelona, Rodri favours a move to the former due to proximity with his home city.

But as per the report, the midfielder acknowledges that a move to Barcelona could make more sporting sense as their style of play could really suit him.

Rodri will also be surrounded with familiar faces in the national team, including the likes of Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal.

That being said, the player’s priority remains Real Madrid and unless something drastic happens, it is likely he will join Los Blancos for a hefty sum this summer.
