FC Barcelona poached talented Spanish shot-stopper Joan Garcia from local rivals Espanyol this summer by triggering his release clause early in the summer transfer window.
However, he wasn’t the only player the Catalan club managed to poach from their rivals. Barcelona Atlètic also snapped up Roger Martinez on a free transfer after his Espanyol contract expired.
The midfielder joined Juliano Belletti’s side for pre-season, aiming to make an impression and earn a place in the new Barça Atlètic coach’s plans.
Unfortunately, however, as confirmed by the club and reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona quarry summer arrival suffered a nasty fall on his debut, resulting in an injury that will rule him out for approximately 10 weeks.
Brought on in the second half by Belletti, Martinez impressed in his first few minutes. But fate took an unkind turn as he sustained a shoulder injury that cut his debut short.
Early assessments raised fears of a more serious outcome that might have required surgery, which could have sidelined him for four to five months.
Fortunately, further medical tests revealed that surgery would not be necessary, and the club has opted for a conservative treatment plan. While a 10-week absence remains a setback, the news has brought some relief.
For Martinez, the focus now shifts to staying mentally strong during his recovery. Maintaining confidence and determination will be essential as he works toward returning to full fitness.
Everyone at the club will be hoping for a swift and complete recovery for Roger Martinez. This early setback may be unfortunate, but it is only the beginning of what could become a promising journey at FC Barcelona.
