Barcelona have a chance to move up the UEFA Champions League table on Wednesday night with a win over Crvena Zvezda, a team they have not played in over 25 years.

With the game scheduled away from home, the Catalans must conquer the Serbian team’s daunting home stadium.

If they manage to bring home three points, they will be able to capitalise on Real Madrid and Manchester City’s defeats and move above both in the standings.

Familiar opposition for Olmo

Dani Olmo has made a stellar start to the season with Barcelona and already has five goals to his name in just five appearances in La Liga.

His participation in the UEFA Champions League, however, has not yet begun in full flow as he missed the team’s first two games and only made a 14-minute cameo off the bench against Bayern Munich out of caution.

Ironically, the last team Olmo has scored against in the Champions League is Crvena Zvezda, the same opposition Barcelona take on later tonight. Playing for RB Leipzig last season, he scored a late goal after coming off the bench to seal the win over the Serbians.

Poised for a start tonight after his match-winning brace against Espanyol, Olmo will be eager to extend that record and score past Red Star Belgrade once more, albeit in the Blaugrana colours this time.

Lewandowski eyeing history

Robert Lewandowski is another player whose start to the new campaign has exceeded all expectations.

The Polish striker has been in phenomenal touch in front of goal and has 14 goals to his name in La Liga and another three in the UEFA Champions League.

Lewandowski has a special memory against Crvena Zvezda as well, for it was against the same opponent that he scored four goals in just 15 minutes after coming off the bench to write UCL history.

Coincidentally, that too came under Hansi Flick’s command, albeit, with Bayern Munich in the sextuple-winning season.

Needless to say, the striker will look to extend his goalscoring record against them later tonight. With just three more goals to go for him to hit the 100-goal mark in the UCL, it could well be a historic night.
