The November international break saw the latest conflict emerge between FC Barcelona and the RFEF as the Catalan club undertook a medical procedure on the young winger Lamine Yamal, and the Spanish national team complained that they had not been sufficiently informed of this medical intervention ahead of time.
As a result of this controversy, the absence of Lamine Yamal from the national team camp has been a subject of bitter debate in the Spanish media. While this might be understandable, there is one angle to this debate that the Blaugranes find particularly problematic.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Barcelona are perplexed because of the fact that their eternal rivals, Real Madrid, have several cases similar to Yamal’s, but there is no media highlight about these players.
For instance, Dean Huijsen was left out of the squad for Spain’s game against Georgia, due to minor discomfort, even though he is not ruled out for Madrid’s upcoming game against Elche. Pau Cubarsi started the game in his absence.
Similarly, Courtois and Valverde suffered minor injuries, that do not rule them out for their upcoming league games with the Merengues, while Mbappe and Camavinga have also left the French national training camp, and both will still be ready for the next league match.
Franco Mastantuono did not even join his national team camp because of groin problems similar to those of Yamal, but he is still training at Vallecas, with no media spotlight on him.
Such a dynamic has previously also been experienced with Real Madrid, and Barcelona are uneasily noticing this trend, especially with the criticism they themselves have faced for some international absences.
